Equipoise. Trust: July 2025

Equipoise. Trust
Poise – referring to a state of balance (from the French/Latin)
When combined, “equipoise” describes a state of equal distribution of weight, forces or interests. Balance.
Our beloved Dennis gave us a beautiful description of being able to walk balanced on 2 legs. Do you remember this teaching? If you go for a little walk now, you can see that you are able to walk without thinking about walking and that you are even and balanced in doing so. Something most of us take for granted every day.

If anyone has suffered a leg, foot, knee, toe, hip or back injury, equipoise goes out the window and all of a sudden, we are thrust into a season of “unbalanced” or “unequal” walking – which can disrupt our very being and more often than not, turns our life upside down. I have suffered several of these types of injuries over my lifetime. All of a sudden, what we take for granted every day, becomes this highly valued and deeply sought-after attribute and gift that we will do almost anything to get back into our lives!
Right now, after almost being recovered from pneumonia, I have somehow injured my knee, and the very act of walking in “equipoise” has been taken from me. I am so conscious of not having this “equal balance” in my physical life, and once again, have been shown by the Holy Spirit just how vital this is, not just physically, but spiritually.
Equipoise spiritually looks like this:
And
I have a flesh nature that needs to be confessed and taken to the cross daily
And
Right now, I am physically suffering and am unable to fulfil my family and work responsibilities
And
My faith needs to grow and mature, and transform daily
And
I will not know this in fullness this side of Heaven
And
I have a flesh nature that needs to be confessed and taken to the cross daily.
This one example of “equipoise”, if taken as God’s truth, (which it is), has the power (as all truth has power), to change and transform your life from Holy to Holy – today, right now and for the rest of your life.
This isn’t a truth that you must wait to see the fruit of, (though there will be delayed fruit and ongoing fruit), but it is a truth that can and will change your very being if you embrace it for all the wonderfulness that it is.
At some point in our individual lives, as a couple and a family, we saw this truth, the manifestation of this truth in the lives of Bruce and Vanessa. All of a sudden, we had hope in this truth, that Father could transform our lives if we believed Him and did the work to embrace our new creation in Christ Jesus, whilst at the same time walking in a continual state of confession of our flesh nature. Almost overnight, (and for the rest of our lives up until this very minute), this truth exercised in our lives changed everything.

AND
We were able to constantly confess our wicked flesh nature and all of its entrapments, snares, behaviours, thoughts and emotions.
At this same time, in balance and harmony, we began to see ourselves new, with an old nature that still wanted to be part of our lives. This old nature had no place, and all we needed to do to walk in our new nature was to constantly expose our flesh, confess it and be disciplined in the renewing of our minds. As the French say, et Voila, everything changed overnight and keeps transforming to this very day.
We are free from the bondage of our flesh nature, (which, like a sore knee, makes us constantly think about itself and protect itself and disrupts our equipoise, our harmony, our peace).
WHILST
At the same time, freeing ourselves from our old flesh nature!
NO MATTER
What is happening to and with our flesh because we are in a constant state of reality, confessing it and taking it to the cross!

Trust: How does trust fit into this equation?
We can only trust ourselves and each other, to the degree that we see the witness of these 2 elements of equipoise.
When David sees me, living out Fathers truth in my life – as the daughter of the living God, AND at the same time, be willing, humble, transparent and consistent in the confession of my flesh – he can trust that I am walking with the Holy Spirit to the best of my ability.
When my children see me, living this way inside and outside of my home, they can begin to learn what trust looks like and can learn how to, in turn, live themselves.
Over the past year, with Rach and Jono living back at home with us, with beautiful Dominic, many of you have asked us, “How’s it going having your adult children live back at home?”. The honest answer is, when we are all living in this spiritual equipoise, it is beautiful. Whenever any one of us veers off this track, there is some additional work to be done. However, let me say this fully, there is such a high level of trust between the 4 of us because we have demonstrated consistently the walking in our new creation in Christ Jesus AND the constant confession of our flesh nature. Rachael is the product of having spent her whole life being raised with this spiritual truth being demonstrated (not perfectly but consistently and with focus) by David and I. It has been the constant of our conversations, parenting, discipling and life – her whole life. Apart from when we all step momentarily out of equipoise, allowing our flesh nature to imbalance our spiritual walk, it is such a joy to live together, and we really have the most wonderful ability to live in harmony and peace, despite the most terrible physical suffering taking place in Rachael’s body.
For many of you, the thought of living in peace and harmony with ourselves, let alone our spouse or our family, seems completely unattainable, if not completely impossible. In fact, I’m certain that you have probably had thoughts of living in isolation, divorce, impatience in waiting for your kids to leave home, a desire to just “leave” wherever friction is happening in your life, your church, your work, your family………….

My hope and prayer is that you can trust Bruce, David and myself in what is shared above. This has always been our hope in teaching and demonstration to you. We are sons and daughters of our Living God, and we are all constantly exposing and confessing our flesh before one another.
My hope and prayer is that you will be witnessed by the Holy Spirit as you read the above bulletin and put yourself in the picture and stories I have shared. You can change your life in Christ today, right now, by embracing in all fullness, (doing the work of owning who you are in Christ and His divine riches), your inheritance. By exposing and confessing your flesh, while walking in repentance and obedience to the word of God.
Walking in this truth brings the gospel of Jesus Christ to life in His body. It brings freedom. It brings hope. It brings life. Join us in these blessings, and let’s walk in equipoise and trust together.
God bless you.
