Weekly Devotional 24th of October, 2025
In this session, we will continue to look at Proverbs Chapter Three.
Proverbs 3:13 – “How blessed is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding.”
This section of Proverbs, from 3:13 to 4:13, encourages us to consider the value of wisdom compared to many other so-called “precious” things on earth, such as silver, gold, and diamonds. It urges us not just to find wisdom but to seize it, promising that in doing so, we will receive long life, wealth, and peace (Verse 16-17).
Wisdom provides both physical and spiritual benefits. It doesn’t diminish the importance of wealth or work—they are all vital parts of life, but wisdom cannot be gained from them, and wisdom can make us a “richer” person than money ever will. However, it can only be discovered through a genuine, faith-filled relationship with God, coupled with a study of His Word. James says,
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him (James 1:5).
It becomes very clear that this means walking with the Lord. Verse 18 shows us that true wisdom leads to happiness. People spend their lives chasing happiness without realising that it can only be found in Christ. The Expositor’s Bible Commentary describes this as,
Heavenly bliss from being right with God; it depicts the human condition of well-being that comes with God’s blessing or as the divine reward of righteousness.
Throughout Scripture, happiness is the result of God’s favour, and it is often translated using the better word of blessed (Psalm 1:1; 32:2; 33:12; 34:8). But even this stops short of plumbing the depth of wisdom. The POSB says this.
Humanity is only beginning to mine the deep, deep treasures of wisdom that lie embedded in God’s magnificent and incredible creation. Think about the marvellous truths—God’s infinite wisdom—contained in the elements of the heavens and earth. For centuries, most of the deep secrets of wisdom and knowledge remained locked in God’s creation, out of the grasp of humanity’s reach and understanding. Then, suddenly, in the twentieth century, God chose to begin unlocking the mysteries of the world, the human body, and the heavens. Human understanding of this great, once unfathomable wisdom continues to grow at an amazing pace (Daniel 12:4). More and more people are understanding the wisdom by which the Lord operates:
He set in place the sun, moon, stars, and galaxies (v. 19b). Think of the wisdom demonstrated in the perfect operation of the solar system and how it affects and governs the earth. Has anyone ever failed to gaze up in wonder?
I don’t know how many of you have thought about that. Recently, God is revealing more of His glory to the people across the world. More is being uncovered each year about our DNA, genes, and what it truly means to be human.
Here is what we can conclude from this and the other references of wisdom in the Scriptures (more than 200 of them). If God used His knowledge to establish the laws that control the world and its order, how much more do we need this knowledge (wisdom) in our lives?
The solutions to life’s challenges and in our world can be found in the Lord’s wisdom! There is no substitute for this wisdom. Nothing—absolutely nothing—is more valuable, and the amazing part is, it is accessible! It is available to us through Jesus Christ.
When we accept Christ as Saviour, we receive the source of all wisdom! If His wisdom can create the magnificent wonders of creation, imagine what it can do in our lives if we ask for it, seek it, and walk in it.
The same God who created everything that exists and sustains it all is living within us through His Holy Spirit! Each of us holds the wisdom and power to change the world.
Let’s go out and do it.
God bless you.
